While there is no set formula for determining the chances of getting pregnant there are significant factors that one can weigh.  The variance of each factors influence on your particular situation should be taken in account as they can greatly influence your overall chances of getting pregnant.  Also please take note that this list van be taken different ways. You can view these as tips on getting pregnant, or as a how to get pregnant fast type listing, but also note that  the inverse is true as well. Here is a list of some of the more important factors:

  • Age – Your ability to get pregnant begins to decrease after 30 years of age
  • Weight – The more obese a person is the less the chance of becoming pregnant.  Additionally, obesity increases the likelihood of complications during the pregnancy
  • Partners Sperm Count – The higher the sperm count the more the likelihood of pregnancy
  • Prescription and Other Drug Use – Certain drug interactions can decrease or even increase the likelihood getting pregnant.
  • Amount of Sexual Activity – The old fashioned way of turning in rabbits has always been the number one method of getting pregnant.
  • Regularity of menstrual cycle – If your menstrual cycle is irregular it becomes difficult to to know when you are ovulating thus making the “timing” harder to get right.

Chances of Getting Pregnant

  • For each ovulation cycle there is a 15-25% chance of getting pregnant.  However this assumes that everything “goes right” in the process. I.e. you are trying to have a baby.
  • Within the first three months of trying to conceive a couple generally has a 40% success rate.  By six months that number increases to about 70%.  That number increase to 85% after the first year.

Pregnancy Statistics

One can help but wonder why it is that there is such a small chance in any given cycle of becoming pregnant.  While research is still be done in this area of how to become pregnant and stay pregnant it has become increasing apparent that in many cases the women DOES become pregnant but is never aware of her circumstance.  Unfortunately the vast majority of pregnancies are actually rejected by a woman’s body.  The cycle goes through without her ever knowing that an egg was fertilized.  Researchers and scientists are currently working on ways for to decrease the likelihood that the body will reject the pregnancy.  With great hope many people see the boding area of research to be one of the next great advances in fertility research.

Once pregnant there is a high likelihood of giving birth.  Of the approximately 6 million US pregnancies (meaning the women was aware that she is pregnant) 4 million of those will result in live births.  Of the 2 million remaining pregnancies, 1.2 million will be terminated by choice and the rest will be loss due to complications with the pregnancy.
